NECS and Shawmut Equipment announce new NCCER class location

For many years, our customers from Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut have traveled to Vermont, Maine or New Hampshire to attend our NCCER public operator certification classes.  We re pleased to announce, along with our partners at Shawmut Equipment in South Easton, MA, that we will now have a regular NCCER class location in MA.  Our first offering will be a rookie/long class on May 22 – 26 and will include a signal person and basic rigging qualification, two more days of classroom prep for the NCCER written exams, a day of practical training on a boom truck for those who are entry-level, and all written and practical testing, including onsite practical testing by appointment for those who need specialty crane type exams.  This class can also be adapted for recert or fast-track operators who would like to get a study package in advance and just attend for load chart review and testing.

Some of you may be wondering, what about our NCCCO classes at Shawmut Equipment, which we ve been running biannually for the past few years?  While we will continue to work with our customers who need onsite CCO classes, and we can also continue to help individual recert candidates with exam prep, we have decided to discontinue our CCO public classes.  Changes to CCO s testing process have made the classes logistically more difficult and more expensive to deliver and we feel we can better serve our customers by expanding our NCCER public class locations.

Joe Vergoni, vice president for Shawmut Equipment Company, comments, “We are very excited to continue our relationship with New England Crane School.  We feel that our equipment and facilities combined with NECS’s preparation and testing provide an optimal experience for any operator seeking to obtain an accredited crane license.”

Those of you who have been our customers for some time have likely heard us say, It s time to stop looking for operators and start making them.”  NCCER s focus on workforce development and logistically easier testing procedures will help us—and Shawmut—to help you do that.

DID YOU KNOW?
Over 60% of construction accidents occur within an employee’s first year of work. Statistics like these exemplify a need for proactive, high quality safety training. On average, construction companies spend 3.6% of their budgets on injuries, but only 2.6% on safety training. According to OSHA, companies can save $4 - $6 for every $1 invested in safety programs.
